Eco Printing with Flowers: Flowers to Dye For Workshop

Using a hammer to create art with something as delicate as flowers seems unconventional, right? Well, the results are undeniable. Eco printing is a technique of replicating a flowers colors and shapes using the method of coaxing the flowers to transfer to paper or fabric by gently pounding with a hammer. Join us in learning this simple method for botanical printing on fabric using the natural dyes in plants.

We will provide you with a brand new organic cotton canvas tote bag that we’ve prepared with a mordant to help the natural dyes take hold to the fabric. After a brief demonstration and explanation of the printing technique, we will provide a guided tour of the gardens where you will choose and cut fresh flowers to create your masterpiece.

All classes are designed for beginners or seasoned gardeners and no flower experience is necessary. So grab a friend (or two) and come join in the fun of hammering flowers and go home with a beautiful (thanks to you) new tote bag printed with your very own original art!

Botanical Cyanotypes: The Magic of Sun Printing Workshop

Cyanotype is the "original” sun-printing process and one of the earliest photographic techniques. Since the 1800’s, cyanotype has been used as a medium for creating copies of photos and maps as well as indexing plants. It still remains a widely popular photography alternative.

Join us as we explore the magical world of botanical cyanotype printing and harness the power of the sun to make detailed prints from virtually any object that casts a shadow. We will provide you with a brand new organic cotton tote bag to use as your canvas. After a demonstration and explanation of the technique, you will paint your bag with a sponge brush to give it a sensitized surface. While it dries, you will go on a guided tour of the gardens to find leaves and flowers you want to use. Then you will arrange your found materials on your bag to be exposed in the sun to create a memory that can be kept forever. The unique blue color of the cyanotype makes for bold eye-catching results.

All classes are designed for beginners or seasoned gardeners and no flower experience is necessary. So grab a friend (or two), come join in the fun and go home with a beautiful (thanks to you) new tote bag printed with your very own original art!

Sophisticated Terrarium Design Workshop

This small and intimate workshop was so well received (and so fun!) we are offering another opportunity to participate.

In 1829, Dr. Ward, an enthusiastic naturalist in Britain, inadvertently discovered that plants growing within an enclosed airtight glass case could survive without being watered for a long time period. Understanding these favorable growing conditions, he created the Wardian case. It paved the way for successfully transporting live plants across the globe.

Join us for a hands-on experience creating your own miniature indoor garden in a glass terrarium case reminiscent of English conservatories of the nineteen century. The stunning, premium quality terrarium case designed for long-lasting durability includes brass filigree trim and brass finials. The case is 9.5”L x 5.5”W x 10.5” making it the perfect size for any location. And the entire glass terrarium top lifts off for easy care and planting.

Learn the steps to terrarium planting with tropical plants and helpful tips on maintaining your indoor garden. Receive hands-on experience on how to use colors, textures and decorative elements to create a visually appealing miniature world that’s uniquely yours.
