Cyanotype is the "original” sun-printing process and one of the earliest photographic techniques. Since the 1800’s, cyanotype has been used as a medium for creating copies of photos and maps as well as indexing plants. It still remains a widely popular photography alternative.

Join us as we explore the magical world of botanical cyanotype printing and harness the power of the sun to make detailed prints from virtually any object that casts a shadow. We will provide you with a brand new organic cotton tote bag to use as your canvas. After a demonstration and explanation of the technique, you will paint your bag with a sponge brush to give it a sensitized surface. While it dries, you will go on a guided tour of the gardens to find leaves and flowers you want to use. Then you will arrange your found materials on your bag to be exposed in the sun to create a memory that can be kept forever.
